We’ve only just wrapped up IAA 2024 – but that doesn’t mean we’re done with trade fairs. Our Truck Refrigeration Units are on their way back from Hannover, but our Bus and Train Passenger HVACs are heading to another region of Germany. From 24 to 27 September, we’ll be at InnoTrans 2024 in Hall 3.1, stand 620!
For the last few years, all sections of the transport sector have been looking into ways to decarbonise – and public transport is no different! What makes this sector different is that they’re already very far ahead.
While electric TRUs are on the rise (backed by Thermo King’s innovations and investments), the public transport sector is already well on their way to full electrification! In fact, 2/3rd of new inner- and inter-city busses are fully electric.

Climate control is actually the perfect technology to help in this electric transition: “As the bus industry undergoes a significant shift towards electrification, Thermo King is well positioned to play a crucial role in supporting this move,” said Urszula von Kreijfelt, commercial director for the Thermo King Bus business in EMEA. “Our advanced HVAC systems are engineered not only to maintain optimal temperatures for passenger comfort but also to extend the life of bus batteries by effectively managing their temperature.”
In the middle of this exciting change to full-electric power, it’s important to remember there are other steps to take on the road to decarbonisation – such as switching to greener refrigeration. For this transition, collaboration is key. Urszula von Kreijfelt explains: "As the industry is transitioning to ultra-low GWP refrigerants, we work closely with manufacturers, operators and service providers to deliver turnkey and customised solutions that help them meet their operational, application and environmental goals.”
Two of the units you can discover at InnoTrans 2024 are the award-winning Thermo King Athenia™ ENVI Heat Pump with R-744 (CO2) and the Thermo King S-30—e Heat Pump.

Keeping HVAC innovation on track
But Thermo King is not just bringing our bus HVAC solutions. For the first time ever, we’re also bringing some of our greenest Rail HVAC solutions to InnoTrans!
Like the bus sector, demand for green and efficient HVAC solutions on the tracks is rising. And like in the bus sector, Thermo King strongly believes collaboration is the key to progress. Mathieu Audureau, global sales and service director for Thermo King Rail, explains: “Thermo King is partnering with the tramway, light rail, metro, locomotives and high-speed rail OEMs and operators to test and develop solutions that balance operational benefits with passenger and driver comfort and safety.”
So, if you want to explore the latest HVAC innovations or learn more about Thermo King’s vision of close collaboration, join us at InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin. From 24 to 27 September, you’ll find us in Hall 3.1, stand 620.
